Looking for a whisky with which to celebrate the holidays? The Singleton of Glen Ord Single Malt Sherry Cask is bursting with festive flavour.
It’s no secret that whisky producers are increasingly experimenting with cask woods and cask finishes to offer whisky lovers a greater spectrum of flavour profile. Sherry casks, infused with the sweet-yet-tart, robust fruit flavours of fortified wines, have proven among the most popular, offering new levels of complexity to single-malts lovingly finished within their confines. The newest release, The Singleton of Glen Ord Single Malt Sherry Cask, is a brilliant expression of this delicate final step in the maturation process.
Bursting with a rich, fruity flavour, the Singleton of Glen Ord Single Malt Sherry Cask is an unprecedentedly smooth, complex and intricate whisky edition. With a golden amber colour and a nose rich in the flavours of plum and caramel, finishing with hints of dark chocolate, the new dram captures The Singleton of Glen Ord’s signature style while also presenting whisky lovers something new.
Founded in 1838, the prolific Glen Ord distillery slow crafts the Singleton Signature Sherry Edition with a bespoke triple cask maturation process. The process begins with maturing whisky in both European oak sherry casks and American oak bourbon casks. The American oak bourbon creates vanilla, caramel and woody notes and the European oak sherry adds fruity, bitter notes.
After 12 years, these two whiskies are then brought together and married in a perfect balance by malt master Maureen Robinson, who draws on her unparalleled 40-years of experience to revisit a selection of ageing whiskies from the distillery while further maturing this whisky in sherry casks to enhance the signature rich fruity tasting notes with transcendental depth of taste and complexity that makes for a rich vibrancy of dark berries, cherries and blackcurrants.
We’re sure Santa would approve.
