Kavalan is proud to announce the launch of two exclusive whiskies, combining lightly heated STR casks with ex-bourbon barrels port barriques respectively.
Bless the Taiwanese, with their proud nationalism, their innovative tech scene, and their long-legged filles. They’ve also made impressive inroads in the whisky world, with Kavalan rising from a local spirit to one winning awards around the globe. The distillery has now released two new expressions in its Kavalan Masters Select collection that play on the influence of wood in the ageing process.

With packaging inspired by the island’s Snow Mountain Rain, the Master’s Select additions both feature spirit aged in STR casks, which are treated using the Taiwanese distiller’s unique Shave-Toast-Rechar technique to unlock flavours hidden in the oak’s deep layers. Kavalan’s lightly peated STR whisky is lightly peated new make spirit, aged in the distillery’s STR casks and has now been used as the foundation for the new expressions.
Master’s Select Reserve No. 1, aged in both STR and ex-bourbon casks, delivers a harmony of fruity sweetness with a warm, gentle peaty and nutty essence. With a golden hue, expect delicate peat aromas gracefully enveloping a silky and sweet body (now if that’s not whisky porn we don’t know what is), while a subtle hint of saltiness perfectly complements the sweetness. You’ll also find cream and vanilla on the palate, along with luscious notes of caramelised crème brûlée and velvety honey sweetness.

Master’s Select Reserve No. 2 on the other hand, having been aged in STR and port barriques, offers luscious, intense aromas of dark berries and stone fruits on the nose, followed by mellow longan and red date tea notes, with a nutty woody spiciness, as well as grapes, berries, cherries, plums and red apples.
