Paradise might be a little closer than you think, with the opening of Asia’s newest private eco-retreat, Alila Villas Koh Russey.
We hear you, you’ve worked hard, you’ve been a good guy, and you deserve a vacation somewhere remote, warm and welcoming, where the water is azure, the sundowners ice cold, and the accommodation sublime.
Alila Villas Koh Russey, located at the heart of the Koh Rong archipelago off Cambodia’s southern coast, is set to ruffle feathers amongst the ranks of Asia’s private islands when it opens in time for your festive foray to tropical isles.
A 15-minute boat ride from the mainland, the new five-star eco-resort has been infused with timeless Khmer culture and will feature 63 suites and villas, although we think you might find respite quickest in one of the one- and two-bedroom pool villas, each of which come complete with its own terrace, private pool, and garden.

If you like to travel en masse, the resort’s four-bedroom pool villa features a large living area, kitchen, master bedroom, three guest bedrooms and an expansive outdoor terrace and pool area, perfect for festive frivolity. The resort’s minimalist design persona continues through all guest rooms, which feature hardwood floors, dark volcanic and slate-like stone, and steel, which are contrasted by delicate wooden screens, light-coloured fabrics, woven silks, ikat cushions and plush furnishings.
The Alila Villas Koh Russey will offer a wealth of in-house facilities when it flings its doors open later this year, including a beachfront Spa Alila, a Kids Club (if you’re so inclined), a Beachside Grill, a Sunset Bar on the Western Cape, and the Ridge Restaurant, which will showcase international and local cuisine.

If you’ve lounged by the pool long enough, Alila Leisure Concierges will be on hand to organize everything from island hopping among the archipelago, to temple tours, and even hiking through the forested mountains of Bokor National Park.
Now wouldn’t that be nice?
