OBP brings a contemporary take on Korea’s iconic gastropub culture to Central Hong Kong.
You could be forgiven for not knowing this, but the phrase sool-jip, which translates as “alcohol house” actually refers to South Korea’s eclectic and fascinating gastropub scene, hole-in-the-wall venues that combine a killer ambiance with comfort food and whatever’s on tap. Now hungry lads in Hong Kong can tap into the timeless sool-jip culture with the opening on Old Bailey Street of OBP.
Created by Westside Hospitality, the innovative minds behind 11 Westside and Westside Taqueria, OBP promises an innovative take on Korean gastropub cuisine, complete with inspiring sharing plates, Korean cocktails by beverage director Daniel Eun, and of course, lashings of heady rice wine.
OBP’s list of light and approachable cocktails will also be laced with Korean brewed and distilled staples – think soju, makgeolli, and baeksaeju – ensuring they pair nicely with chef Junwoo Choi’s dishes, which include spicy braised pork ribs with raclette; beef shank with shiitake mushrooms, glass noodles, and house-made beef broth; and boneless fried chicken with homemade sweet chili sauce.
Open until 2 am (when dining restrictions are lifted), the new hideaway promises to be a tantalising introduction to Korea’s vibrant sool-jip culture and a great way to toast the new year with your beef-loving brethren.
