Just in time for the end of summer and hopefully travel restrictions, Raffles Bali has opened on Asia’s favourite tropical playground.
When the lock down ends, and it will end, eventually (we hope), you’ll probably be in the market for an escape far from city living. Fair go. We suspect you’ll be looking for somewhere tropical. We predict you’ll want some creature comforts. We propose you’ll be after a destination that’s at once familiar and also inspiring. We think we know where you should be headed.

Raffles Hotels & Resorts has opened its newest luxury hideaway on Indonesia’s Island of the Gods. Raffles Bali, located at Jimbaran Bay, boasts just 32 private pool villas (said to be the largest in this corner of the island), making your new social distancing tenancies easier. Each decadent space is dressed in tropical hardwood, rustic rattan, and local batik tapestries, and features soaring sea views, a private plunge pool, a shaded gazebo, a deep soak tub and outdoor shower, and hot-and-cold running butler service.
Just 30 minutes from the airport and even less from the restaurants and bars of Jimbaran, Raffles Bali is sequestered in a hidden corner of the island, nestled in bucolic landscapes that will make the city drudge a distant memory.

If you can drag yourself from self-isolation between the sheets of your king-sized bed, make a beeline for the Writers Bar and adjoining Library, where medicinal libations are expertly crafted by resident mixologists. Rumari, a restaurant set at the resort’s highest point, is just minutes away and showcases authentic Balinese cuisine, while Loloan Beach Bar and Grill is set beside the beach and the resort’s 25-meter infinity pool and makes the most of Indonesia’s stunning seafood.
You’ll probably be more mindful about your own wellness too. Fortunately, the Raffles Spa, with its two treatment rooms and expert therapists, promises a host of holistic rituals that will poke and prod you back into good spirits.
You’ll be forgiven for not wanting to rush home.
