Bangkok’s newest hotspot, Ocken, takes its inspiration from its owner’s favourite ingredients, and features inspired cuisine by head chef Johnny Liu.
If you ever wondered which came first, the chicken or the…octopus, Think Beyond, the creators of Bangkok’s Café Roast and coffee house Roots, has recently opened its newest venture in Sathon, Ocken Bangkok. Named after the founder’s favourite ingredients – Oc(topus) and (chic)ken – this new culinary concept serves up the cuisine of chef Johnny Liu, who taps into his extensive travels to find inspiration along the theme of East-meets-West.

Ocken’s menu guides diners by numbers, starting with small bites (category number one) and working its way through to desserts (number five). The octopus of the signature dish is softened in brine, grilled to perfection and served with smoky crispy bacon bits. For the poultry portion of Ocken, try the Peri Peri Chicken, charred in tomato sauce and served with a zesty jalapeno salsa.
The restaurant’s spacious dining room features a teal colour scheme, and seats at the counter bar let diners take in all the action of the open kitchen.

The bar serves cocktail classics like the Negroni and Old Fashioned, alongside more adventurous creations like the Salty Pineapple, with Campari, dark rum, pineapple, and a hint of sea salt. Purifying their own water – still and sparkling – Ocken also adopts a no plastic policy, avoiding plastic bottles and offering stylish bamboo straws.
