Combining British gastropub fare with Australian beach culture flair, Bathers has opened on one of Hong Kong’s most beautiful strips of coastline, offering locals and visitors alike a taste of the tropics without a single skyscraper in sight.

The creation of dynamic husband-and-wife restauranteurs Chris Woodyard and Bronwyn Cheung of Woolly Pig Hong Kong (we’re already firm fans of their SoHo BBQ join Big Sur as well as their harbourside Aussie fine-dining spot Hue and casual-dining eatery Ink) Bathers is located on Lower Cheung Sha beach, a blissful strip of sand on Lantau Island’s southern flanks.
Here, with a beach club-like ambiance, Bathers delivers chic al fresco dining, crisp, intelligent service, and a seasonal menu by British gastropub guru chef Toby Barrett that’s laced with the bounty of both land and sea. If it wasn’t for the odd passing junk or Macau-bound high-speed ferry, you could be forgiven for thinking you were in Kenting, Langkawi or Kamala.
Part refined destination restaurant and part contemporary beach club, Bathers is dressed in muted grey and vibrant turquoise, and caters for up to 100 diners, with additional self-service tables available on the beach, for those who like to dine with the sand between their toes.

The space lends itself to any occasion, from lad’s weekend lunches to intimate evening dining and birthdays backdropped by the beauty of the South China Sea.
Be sure to kick off with one of the restaurant’s ‘surf’ cocktails, which include the rum-laced Lantau Slushie and several on-tap libations, complemented by a list of craft beers and boutique ciders, and matched with gourmet snacks, including chilled seafood platters and charcuterie.
For something a little more robust, highlights of the menu include beer-battered barracuda; salt and pepper squid; charred pork chop with crispy mustard potatoes; grilled lobster with bacon and gremolata; and a selection of Australian grass-fed steaks. During weekends, a brunch menu will offer free flow options and classic Sydney-esque brunch fare.

Adjacent to Bathers, Wooly Pig Concepts will also open Mr Chipper, a casual fish and chip stall serving a range of fresh daily catches, salads, and gelatos, with self-service seating.
