Looking for the perfect spot for a couple of happy hour drinks, a few light bites, and some of Hong Kong’s best harbour views? Your search is over with the arrival of Ink.
Hong Kong harbour, it never fails to impress even the most stoic-hearted. However, there are not as many spots along Victoria Harbour’s rim as one might expect, with a lot of space given over to parks, towering commercial buildings and highways. Fortunately, as part of the revitalisation of the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront and the reopening of the Hong Kong Museum of Art, which has emerged from a four-year renovation, there are a couple of new hotspots, HUE, of which we are already fans, and its more casual compadre Ink.
The new waterfront eatery delivers a little slice of Sydney to the Hong Kong harbourfront, with a bevvy of locally-brewed beers on tap, a menu of palate-pleasing grab ‘n’ go seafood dishes, and alfresco seating so close to the water’s edge you’ll fall in love with this great city all over again.
The 60-seat seafood bar and cafe evolves with the passing of the sun above; by morning it serves up great coffee and fresh pastries for commuters and visitors alike.
By lunch, you can create your own culinary masterpiece with a built-your-bowl concept that matches fresh seafood with udon noodles, squid ink fried rice, eggplant multigrain rice, and fresh tortillas.
As the sun grows heavy in the sky, stop in for salt and pepper squid, freshly shucked oysters, crispy curried oyster ‘donuts’, tempura octopus balls, delectable octopus poke, green curry New Zealand mussels, crayfish rolls, and, for when the temperature dips, satisfying scallop and clam chowder. You’ll also be able to sate that thirst with a range of Gweilo craft beers, gin and tonics on tap (made with Gweilo’s new gin), and imported Six Barrel sodas from New Zealand.
If you’re the romantic type – and we think you might be – you can conclude date night at Ink with housemade ice cream (the strawberry cheesecake and salted caramel and peanut are firm favourites) and views that are guaranteed to swoon.
Because towering, floodlit skyscrapers can have that effect.
