Marrying emotive design and inspired technology, the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet concept taps the past to define the future, discovers Nick Walton.
With its sensual, emotionally appealing design and innovative technical concept solutions, the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet is a tantalising taste of what the marque has planned for the future. Defining the ultimate in luxury, the two-seater concept pays homage to the glorious “automotive haute couture” of hand-finished, exclusive cabriolets, reinterpreting classic design from an era when luxury saloons were the size of cruise ships – this particular concept is almost six meters in length!

The nautical inspiration continues to the car’s ‘boat tail’ format, which recalls a luxury yacht, the narrow tail lights that emphasise the width of the vehicle integrated into its outer edges, while the cockpit resembles a yacht lounge, complete with chairs in quilted crystal rose gold-infused white nappa leather and a floor in open-pore wood with inlaid aluminium underscoring the connection to yachting.
Designed as an electric car, the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet concept’s drive system has an output of 750 hp, with the shallow underfloor battery allowing for a range of over 500 kilometres.

With unmistakable Art Deco lines, including the eye-catching pinstripe radiator grille, the cabriolet concept taps into the Jay Gatsby within all of us – if only it were real.
