With a population of just 49, Pitcairn is the tropical island equivalent of television’s Cheers, because literally everyone knows everyone.
If you’re looking for a destination that very few others have visited, we just might have what you’re looking for. When crew aboard the Royal Navy vessel HMS Bounty mutinied against their tyrannical captain William Bligh, many ended up settling on the Pitcairn Islands, a clutch of islets lost in the South Pacific between New Zealand and Peru.
Today the population of the island, one of the most undiscovered destinations in the world, works out as the same as four and a half football teams, making the islands the least populous national jurisdiction in the world.
However, the intrepid have been invited to visit next February with a special 18-night tour from Pitcairn Island Tourism. The tour includes a stopover in Tahiti followed by an epic ocean voyage across to the isolated island. Once you’re on the main island, Pitcairn, you’ll join the local community on fishing trips, explore Bounty Bay, hone your honey and beekeeping skills, and sign the guest book at the local museum. Just think of the bragging rights.
The first tour commences in Tahiti on February 17, 2018, with future departures planned based on demand to complement the regular shipping service to Pitcairn.
