Patron has released the oldest tequila the company has ever produced, the Patron Extra Añejo 10 Años, a beautiful expression of aged tequila a decade in the making.
You’ve noticed a whole in your home wet bar, and figure you need something a little special to fill it with. Good move. Perhaps you should shake off the cheap tequila demons of your youth and reach for a spirit that’s refined as it is heady.
Patron Extra Añejo 10 Años is a rare, limited-edition offering aged for an impressive ten years in used American oak and hybrid American and French Limousin barrels. Ten years may not seem like much but that’s a lifetime in tequila circles; given the challenging climate conditions in Mexico ageing tequila naturally for an extended period of time is extremely complicated without affecting the flavour and losing the agave personality.
For this very special drop master distiller Francisco Alcaraz used 100 percent Weber Blue Agave from Atotonilco, Mexico, which was distilled and aged in the brand’s barrel room, where it averaged 6.3 percent angel’s share per year. With close monitoring, by ten years the spirit was ready, exhibiting a remarkable balance between agave notes and unique flavour characteristics, and a long-lasting aftertaste of oak and vanilla that makes it as ideal for craft cocktails as it does for sipping.
Think of it as an early Christmas gift for your mouth.
