Opening next month, LUX North Male Atoll Maldives ups the ante on luxury escapes.
“Next level” is the best way to describe LUX* North Male Atoll, the newest luxury resort to open in the Maldives. With just 67 over-sized double-storey penthouse residences, each with private pool, naturally, the new resort blends super-yacht panache with a South Beach pulse to upstage the traditional thatched villa vibe.
Created by Singaporean design house Miaja, which took inspiration from the curves, lines and the impeccable finish of a luxury boat and its sails, the resort is located on Olhahali, a six-hectare island fringed by white-sandy beaches
Each of the LUX*’s residences sits right on the beach or over the water with living areas that are at least 350sqm. These breezy, spacious villas host a choice of spaces in which to eat, drink, relax — from the rooftop relaxing areas and spacious bathrooms with indoor and outdoor showers, to intimate sun terraces — treating guests to continuous pastel panoramas of the Indian Ocean.
All you have to do is decide how to spend your days, from intimate barbecue dinners in the privacy of your own penthouse villa, and stargazing with a resident astronomer, to having your Man Friday summon the bartender to shake up your favourite cocktail right on your roof terrace.
In the mood to mingle? Head for Barium, a secluded private dining room with a wow-inducing underwater fish tank; or join other guests at INTI restaurant, where chef Gaston, the Maldives’ only Peruvian chef, prepares smoked guacamole, ceviche and aged meats, introducing guests to the tastes of Peru, Argentina, Japan, Ecuador and Mexico, laced with plenty of pisco and sake. Alternatively, travel the globe at GLOW, home to European classics, Italian and Spanish delicacies and Southeast Asian specialities.
LUX North Male Atoll Maldives’ celebrated Beach Rouge has a pool-club feel, combining strong contemporary lines, world-class cuisine, a wood-fired pizza oven and Josper charcoal grill as well as awe-ensuring views over the infinity pool — all soundtracked by a live DJ – there’s even a rooftop shisha bar.
Make the most of the lagoon’s stunning house reefs with a fully-certified PADI dive centre and resident marine biologist, as well as a fleet of pleasure craft including luxury yachts and a semi-submarine.
If all this proves too much to the senses, head to the overwater spa, where the signature treatment has been inspired by dolphins, and which helps connect you with nature while effortlessly easing tension.
