The new Hublot Big Bang Unico SORAI will help curb the rapid decline of global rhino numbers.
You might not realise this, but two-thirds of rhinoceros species may disappear in our lifetime, due to poaching. This would be undoubtedly an irreversible loss for our planet. However, hope is not lost – SORAI (Save our Rhinos in Africa and India), founded by cricketer Kevin Pietersen, is working hard to reverse this trend and has now collaborated with Hublot to create a very special timepiece, the sale of which will fund charities helping preserve these noble beasts.
With only 100 of the Hublot Big Bang Unico SORAi timepiece produced, the collaboration will help fund both Care for Wild, which cares for and rehabilitates orphaned baby rhinoceroses, and the South African National Parks agency, to reinforce its nocturnal surveillance capabilities in the country’s parks, home to 80 percent of the world’s rhinos. Staying ahead of poachers is a race against time, every time. Using innovative technologies such as thermal intelligence, surveillance teams can stay ahead of the poachers.
Symbolic of this inspiring alliance, the Hublot Big Bang Unico SORAI has a 45-mm ceramic dial donned with the sandy tones of the sumptuous African bush and an image of a white rhinoceros. Strapped onto a matching NATO bracelet, the Big Bang Unico SORAI can express its commitment with personality by adopting the camouflage style of the second bracelet, made of rubber.
The selective vulcanisation technology used in the watch’s production produces motifs in long-lasting colours that are perfectly drawn with an accuracy of a tenth of a millimetre, a first in the watchmaking world.
