Welcome the Year of the Ox in style with the Hennessy x Liu Wei Chinese New Year Limited Edition VSOP Privilège and XO.
It’s almost Chinese New Year, and that means it’s time to come together, give thanks for what was, and welcome good things in the future. It’s a time to celebrate, to congregate (socially responsibly of course), and to bestow on those closest to us all the best wishes for the Year of the Ox, and in all the right cases, that’s done with lai see, lo hei, and a bloody nice bottle of cognac.
Fortunately, Hennessy has tapped world-renowned Chinese ‘new wave’ artist Liu Wei to create an eye-catching new design for the cognac house’s 2021 Chinese New Year limited-edition releases, which include the traditional VSOP Privilège and, for the first time, a special XO release.
A varied-media artist, Liu Wei is best known for employing elements of conceptualism, satire, and humor in his pieces, elements that can be seen in his solo exhibition – currently on show at Shanghai’s Long Museum – which examines the challenging year that’s been.
For Hennessy, Wei has created two captivating bottles, each incorporating auspicious shades of red and purple, colours that symbolise happiness, success, and good fortune in Chinese culture. The traditional release of the VSOP Privilège has been labelled ‘Spring’ by the artist and joins the brand’s first Chinese New Year release of a limited-edition XO, which is presented in suitably lavish gold and black.
If that doesn’t bring good fortune, we’re not sure what will!
