Travel back in time with the FCC Angkor, Siem Reap’s iconic Foreign Correspondents’ Club, which has reopened after a spectacular renovation that captures its rich history to perfection.
Asia is a region that loves to look forward, and there’s nothing wrong with that. However, sometimes it’s nice to look over our shoulder and appreciate the times that have come before.
An Icon Reborn
In Siem Reap, the gateway to Cambodia’s legendary Angkor Wat temple complex, the Foreign Correspondents’ Club is a testament to the country’s colonial past, as well as to the often-turbulent history that followed. A must-visit for foreign dignitaries, journalists, celebrities and world wanderers, the FCC Angkor has been a safe haven for generations. Housed in a magnificent mansion that was once home to the French colonial governor, the club is a local institution.
Yesterday Meets Now
You can now be part of the club’s modern history as it emerges from an extensive renovation under Avani Hotels & Resorts’ management.
Located across from the Royal independence Gardens, FCC Angkor was originally designed by Gary Fell and has been nudged into modernity by Dutch talent Malee Whitcraft and Phnom Penh-based Bloom Architecture, now boasts 80 refreshed guest rooms and suites, garden-wreathed pools, a new cocktail bar and a revitalized dining room serving international and local classics.
The boutique hideaway is awash in culture, from the French-tropical architecture to the extensive Khmer art collection. Fascinating objects d’ art punctuate the décor alongside vibrant textiles produced by local villages as part of community outreach programs.
You can pretend you’re a fearless foreign correspondent on RnR while sipping sundowners on your room’s terrace; shake off the onslaught of modern life at the Visaya Spa; work on your tropical hues beside one of two outdoor saltwater pools; or hold court at Scribe, a contemporary take on the colonial-era bar, adorned with copper, wood, and sandstone.
The new-look FCC Angkor will be joined by a refreshed FCC Phnom Penh in November.
