Hublot has tapped into the world of contemporary tattoo art for its latest Big Bang release.
Sometimes things need to be re-evaluated, reassessed, revamped to make them even better. So it is with the Big Bang Sang Bleu, which watch brand Hublot launched in 2016 in collaboration with famed tattoo artist Maxime Plescia-Buchi. Sure it was a striking timepiece born from an inspirational partnership but even perfection can be perfected.
A key component of contemporary pop culture, tattooing is no longer the sole preserve of a largely masculine underground scene. From a primitive practice to a celebrated field of art and cultural phenomenon, its growing creative influence shows tattooing is not merely a trend but a cultural shift which will last and influence all generations to come.
The new Hublot Big Bang Sang Bleu II makes up in bold, eye-catching lines what it might lack in originality.
The new timepiece passionately channels the design skills of Plescia-Buchi with a case that’s more finely-chiselled and hands, set above a hypnotic chronographic movement, shaped as two elongated diamonds and an arrow that take their cues from stylised fragments of tattoos.
Even more disruptive, the Big Bang Sang Bleu II channels the creative inspiration of Maxime Plescia-Buchi into its three-dimensional angles and edges. The motif spans the case, cutting into its hexagonal bezel, and carving into the sapphire crystal, juxtaposed against the hands with their geometric lines, and moulded onto the interchangeable bracelet. The dial, set in a 45mm case, plays with transparency, allowing glimpses of the HUB1240 Unico manufacture self-winding chronograph movement below.
Limited to 200 pieces in titanium and 100 in King Gold, the new model’s chronograph seconds are tracked
