Swiss watch brand Audemars Piguet presents two new additions to its acclaimed Code 11.59 Tourbillon collection.
Few things enchant quite like a starry night’s sky, and while, in Asia, you’ll have to escape the city to see anything in the heavens that isn’t, in all likelihood, an inbound commerical flight, once you do, you’ll be rewarded with a celestial canopy that speaks to infinite distance and potential.
Creating its own star-lit sky effect, Audemars Piguet has released its Code 11.59 Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon in two new takes, each with a refined and reimagined dial that shimmers like the heavens. This eye-catching effect is created by the use of aventurine, translucent glass punctuated with gold, copper, or chromic oxide first made in Venice in the 15th century. Aventurine glass mimics the shimmer that the mineral of the same name – a variety of quartz spangled with minerals like mica – and the effect can be mezmerising.
In addition to their eye-catching new dial, the new additions to the Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon family are powered by selfwinding manufacture calibre 2950, which combines a flying tourbillon with a central rotor.
Since it was developed in the 1920s, the flying tourbillon has been a symbol of watchmaking excellence and art. Audemars Piguet’s first flying tourbillon wristwatch made its appearance in 2018 in the Royal Oak Concept collection, with the Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet line representing the Manufacture’s second collection to host this prestigious mechanism.
