Swiss watchmakers Audemars Piguet has released three bold new takes on its classic Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding Chronograph.
While we all love classics – OK, most of us – there’s nothing wrong with icons occasionally being given a refresh, if only to make them more accessible to new generations with new tastes and expectations.
Case in point is Audemars Piguet and its Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding Chronograph. The line, which was first presented in 1993, was itself designed to give a sportier persona to the Royal Oak, one of the Swiss watch brand’s most established models, and while it has nothing to do with deep sea drilling, the Offshore editions have always proven more accessible than some of the brand’s more formal timepieces.

The three new additions to the Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding family each include a new dial design, a black ceramic case, and a textured strap that’s in keeping with the range’s lifestyle street cred.
The new models in smoked blue, green or grey, boast new Arabic numerals, supplanting the customary applied hour-markers, but still incorporate the manufacture’s iconic “Mega Tapisserie” pattern. Both blue and green dial options feature a 44 mm ceramic case with matching ceramic bezel, pushpieces and screw-locked crown, with the pushpiece guards in titanium.
The third version, with the smoked grey dial, features an 18-carat pink gold bezel and pushpiece guards as well as a case, pushpieces and screw-locked crown in black ceramic.

Housed within each model’s contemporary case is the Manufacture Calibre 3126/3840, harnessing traditional craftsmanship and watchmaking expertise. This selfwinding movement is comprised of 365 components and will run autonomously for at least 50 hours. In another departure from tradition chronographs, the new Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding Chronograph is presented on a colour co-ordinated textured rubber strap.
Because even the Swiss like to keep things fresh.
