Innovative Hong Kong craft brewer Yardley Brothers has teamed up with Open Book Extracts Asia to release the brewery’s first CBD infused beer.
There’s no doubt that CBD is the ingredient of the age. With legislation around the world rigidly against cannabis until recently, little research was done on the possible health benefits of CBD, one of the 108 cannabinoids found in both cannabis and its innocuous but equally stigmatized sibling, hemp. Today, hemp-derived CBD is legal virtually everywhere, and, valued for its stress-busting and anti-inflammatory attributes can now be found infused in everything from sparkling water to doggie water (and even tiki cocktails).

The newest CBD rendition is Yardley Brothers‘ Lo/Hi Mango Cheesecake CBD Sour, the first craft beer in the brewery’s planned range of CBD brews. To create this brilliant example of craft brewing, Yardley collaborated with OBX, which produces products from organically-grown hemp from family-owned US farms.
Lo/Hi Mango Cheesecake CBD Sour is brewed with 66mg of CBD per litre using Hydrobond, OBX’s proprietary Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)-free, water-soluble CBD, which the company developed in partnership with global ingredient supplier Prinova. Available by the keg, Lo/Hi Mango Cheesecake CBD Sour illuminates the glass with a saffron yellow hue for a juicy, refreshing, and super chilled out low alcohol (0.9% ABV) craft beer reminiscent of a fresh slice of creamy, mango drenched vanilla cheesecake.
“Beer consumers are looking for alternatives to standard alcoholic and non-alcoholic options, and CBD is just the beginning,” says Yardley Brothers’ Luke Yardley. “With that in mind, I see the future role of bars as being social pharmacies able to offer an array of options tailored toward the specific needs of the consumer.”
The new beer will be available at Craftissimo in Shueng Wan, Yardley Brothers’ Beer Shack on Lamma Islands, and Tap, the Ale Project. Also look out for other new additions from the good Brothers, including the rustic !Quit Your Job!: Eat Your Boss, a 7.4% American Saison brewed using a hybrid strain of four French saison yeasts.
