If you have a hankering for traditional home-style Vietnamese cuisine, you’re in luck with the launch of the nine-dish Family Feast at XUÂN Hong Kong.
Few Asian cuisines are as revered for their balance, their fragrance, and their elegance as Vietnamese, and anyone from Saigon to Hanoi knows the best dishes have their roots in the home kitchen, where families come together to share meals laced with the bounty of the season.
Capturing the essence of Indo-Chinese home-cooking, Wan Chai’s modern Vietnamese restaurant XUÂN has created the Family Meal, a nine-dish showcase that reflects the breadth and depth of Vietnamese home cooking.
Following the ritual of com gia dinh, or ‘family food’, the 3-4 person feast includes a selection of sharing dishes chosen by chef John Nguyen that range from a nourishing broth, and refreshing salad, to house-fermented pickles, locally-sourced fish, delicately-prepared shellfish, and tender meat, all of which are paired with Jasmine rice.
The XUÂN Family Meal can also be complemented with new dishes like traditional Ban Khot, crispy and savoury mini coconut milk rice ‘pancakes’ served with uni, quail egg, and a drizzle of scallion oil; golden-fried soft shell crab with lemongrass, chilli, grated coconut and turmeric; and chargrilled Angus hanger steak, plated with neat parcels of rice vermicelli, and buttery bone marrow.
Because a family that dines together, stays together.
