The newly opened Wow Burger at Hong Kong’s Basehall just might be the vegetarian alternative you’ve been craving.
Do you ever look at a vegetarian option on a menu and find yourself struggling to rationalise it as a serious option for a hungry lad? You’re not alone – there are many of us out there looking for vegetarian options that do their part for the environment and our health, while also satisfying appetites honed over centuries by meat. And while it might not be the healthiest option out there, the newly opened Wow Burger at Hong Kong’s Basehall is about as close as you’re going to get to an authentic burger experience without tapping into your carnivorous tendencies.

Founded by entrepreneurs and proud foodies Zacki Hamid, Sunil Datwani and Jason Girard, with Brinc CEO Manav Gupta as a founding investor, the Basehall outlet is Wow Burger’s first. The pint-sized burger counter is home to a comprehensive menu of veggie-friendly comfort food, many laced with local flavours.
You’ll come here for the burgers, naturally, each of which features homemade patties packed with 20g of plant protein a piece. Favourites include the Wow Chick’n, the Wow Cheeseburger with its secret signature sauce; and the Wow Truffle, with Swiss cheese, sauteéd mushrooms, arugula and a house-made truffle sauce.

You’ll be able to pair your burger with sides that range from Crinkle-cut Fries and Tater Tots – be sure to try the Mala option from the choice of flavours Shaker Packs – and(almost) guilt-free Dairy-Free Milkshakes, made with Wow’s own vegan ice cream and oat milk – be sure to try the venue’s take on Hong Kong Milk Tea.
And the taste? Well, thanks to fresh ingredients, a dense yet juicy composition, and plenty of flavour, we’re pretty sure that when it comes to the burgers, if you didn’t already know it was all vegetarian, there’s a distinct chance your brain will pump all the same endorphins you’d expect while eating a prime beef burger. And that’s great for you, great for the cow, and great for the environment.
