Volvo’s all-new S90 flagship executive sedan marries world-class safety with captivating Scandinavian design.
Change is afoot at Volvo. Famed for being among the safest cars in the world, the Swedish brand is increasingly being recognized as a premium segment contender, and the launch of the new flagship four-door S90 sedan is sure to help seal the deal.
The first things you might notice on the new S90 are aesthetic and yet oh-so-Volvo: at the front, there’s the Thor’s Hammer T-shaped daylight LED warning lights; eye-catching radiating lines on the radiator grille; and Volvo’s iconic Iron Mark emblem. The rooflines extend gracefully to emphasize the elegant contours of the vehicle while accentuating the “long front-end, short rear-end” silhouette that gives the sedan a sporty stance.
Despite its good looks, safety remains the top priority for Volvo fans and the next-generation Volvo S90 is no exception. The S90 is the first Volvo model to introduce City Safety, an integration of a bumper camera, sensors distributed across the vehicle body, automatic brake system, collision detection, and large object motion-sensing equipment and technologies, which contribute to more effective collision prevention.
Safety and functionality continue with the S90’s array of innovative driving assistance functions, such as Keyless Drive, Engine Start/Stop, four driving modes (Eco, Comfort, Sport, and Individual), Head-up Display, Adaptive Cruise Control, Park Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, and Active High Beam, with senses the vehicle’s relative position to other vehicles and pedestrians and automatically adjusts the high beam lamps accordingly. The T6 AWD variant is also equipped with a 360-degree camera and Blind Spot Information for elevated alertness of nearby obstacles.
The Volvo S90 comes in two models – the T5 FWD and S90 T6 AWD petrol engine – both of which are equipped with the award-winning Volvo Drive-E 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with eight-speed automatic transmission, delivering superior capacities in terms of engine performance, low emissions, and fuel efficiency compared to its competitors of the same class. The S90 T5 FWD turbocharged engine has a maximum of 254hp and accelerates from rest to 100km/h in just 6.8 seconds, while the T6 AWD turbocharged and supercharged engine provides even more impressive performance, delivering a maximum of 320hp, while sprinting from 0 to 100km/h in merely 5.9 seconds.
Just because the new S90 is super safe and eco-friendly doesn’t mean you’re compromising on comfort. The interior of the new flagship masters the art of blending innovative technology and natural materials, including Scandinavian wood, into an elegant, welcoming, and tasteful ambience. There’s a 12.3-inch colour electronic display instrument panel, showing all essential driving statuses at-a-glance; and a central console that includes a nine-inch SENSUS touchscreen that integrates navigation, vehicle function, and multimedia controls while also delivering satellite navigation in a vertical and thus more intuitive display.
