Named for the magical light phenomenon that illuminates the Earth’s polar skies, Aurora Station will be the first fully modular space station when it launches in 2021 and plans to welcome its first guests the following year.
“We developed Aurora Station to provide a turnkey destination in space,” says Frank Bunger, chief executive officer and founder of Orion Span. “Upon launch, Aurora Station goes into service immediately, bringing travellers into space quicker and at a lower price point than ever seen before, while still providing an unforgettable experience.”
The company also plans to cut the 24-month training period for astronauts down to an intense three months for hotel guests, who will, during their stay, enjoy the exhilaration of zero gravity and fly freely throughout Aurora Station; gaze at the northern and southern aurora through the hotel’s many windows; take part in research experiments, including growing food in orbit; and immerse themselves in a virtual reality experience on the station’s holodeck. They will also stay connected with the folks at home via high-speed wifi.

From its position 200 miles (321km) above the earth in Low Earth Orbit, the Aurora will orbit Earth every 90 minutes, meaning those aboard will see an average of 16 sunrises and sunsets every 24 hours.
The company plans to also build condos which will be privately owned and even sub-leased. A fully refundable deposit for a stay at the Aurora Station is US$80,000 per person and can be reserved online here.
