Many of us didn’t (or won’t) relish the idea of turning 34. However, that’s a pretty great number for the latest addition to Teeling Whiskey’s Vintage Reserve Collection.
When we think of Irish whiskey we can be forgiven for thinking ‘smooth’ and “accessible” before we think “old” and “complex”. However, a new 34-year old Irish whiskey from the Teeling Whiskey Company’s Vintage Reserve Collection is set to change all that.
Teeling, based in Dublin, has been instrumental in reviving Ireland’s whisky industry, despite only starting operations in 2015. Teeling, located in the Liberties area of Dublin, was the city’s first new distillery in over 125 years but the company has already made a name for itself and its drams and is one of our favourite Irish drops.
The new Teeling 34-Year-Old, which was first distilled in 1983 and has been aged in ex-American oak bourbon barrels, is thought to be the oldest Irish single malt in the world. With its deep, rich colour and complex floral notes, this is a truly unique take on Irish whiskey.
Limited to just 38 bottles, it’s expected that this extraordinary dram will be quickly snapped up by collectors, despite its US$5,000 price tag.
If you’re one of the lucky devils to get your hands on this unique drop, you’ll find vanilla, cream, and citrus marmalade on the nose, followed by well-balanced sweetness with touches of sandalwood and allspice, and a deep, slightly spicy finish.
