Tanzania’s Serengeti is a little like Spring Break – the wilder things become the better experience you’ll have, and we know the mobile camp where you should be hanging your hat between Out of Africa moments.
Luxury safari specialist Sanctuary Retreats has launched its newest mobile wilderness lodge, the exclusive Sanctuary Kichakani Serengeti Camp. This extraordinary new escape, which will move regularly between three pre-determined locations across the Serengeti to ensure the best wildlife encounters, offers guests an unrivalled, front row experience of the movement of over a million wildebeest and zebra as they follow the fresh grasses across the Serengeti plains during the annual migration season.

Named for the Swahili word meaning ‘in the bush’, Kichakani boasts just ten luxury tents, which can be packed up and moved along in a style evocative of the pioneering explorers of the 19th century, yet with all modern comforts.
An elegant and contemporary take on the classic camp style, each five-star tent will offer handcrafted luggage, easy chairs and cabinets and desks, a private ensuite with bucket shower, and a private wooden deck on which to enjoy a just-brewed cup of Tanzania’s finest coffee.

In addition, the new camp features a central canopied main tent with lounge and dining areas, where the culinary team prepare a range of international flavours, which can be enjoyed alongside kachumbari (traditional Tanzanian salsa), coconut beans, paprika, cinnamon and chilli from nearby Zanzibar. Daily game drives discover the Serengeti’s populations of wildebeest, zebra, and Thomson’s gazelles, as well as the predators they attract, from cheetahs and lions to African wild dogs.
