A vision of the future reaching fruition with the re-release of an iconic computer chip-enabled sneaker, the RS-Computer Shoe.
When Puma first introduced the RS-Computer shoe 30 years ago, they knew they were ahead of the game. It was the era of D.A.Y.R.L. and Alf, Knight Rider and Airwolf, so while the idea of having a personal computer in your heel that kept tabs of your performance made sense on the small screen, it blew minds in the real world.
For all those sneaker nerds out there (and you know who you are), Puma has reintroduced the RS-Computer Shoe, retaining its old school lines while giving the tech a few shoves into the now. While the original synced with any Apple IIE or Commodore 64 via a rather clumsy 16-pin cord, the new rendition only needs a cable for USB charging and relays info via Bluetooth to Android and iOS-dedicated RS-Computer Shoe apps that use a retro 8-bit graphic interface.
There’s a miniature 3-axis accelerometer, which is used to measure the number of steps taken, distance travelled and calories burned; an onboard rechargeable lithium-polymer battery, and LED indicators in red and green.
The new release – limited to just 86 numbered pairs –comes in the original Lunar Rock – Limestone – Peacoat
