Omega’s stunning new De Ville Tourbillon Numbered Edition is the next chapter in the watch brand’s love affair with Tourbillon craftsmanship.
You can be forgiven for not knowing what a tourbillon is when you’re chatting luxury horology around the water cooler or at the strip club buffet. Essentially an addition to the mechanics of a watch escapement, the tourbillon was developed around 1795 to help increase a timepiece’s accuracy. In a tourbillon timepiece, the escapement and balance wheel are mounted in a rotating cage in order to negate the effects of gravity, and since those early days, watch brands have striven to create the perfect – and increasingly intricate – tourbillon, many of which are then showcased on a watch’s face.

The new De Ville Tourbillon Numbered Edition by Omega is the brand’s first-ever Master Chronometer certified manual-winding central tourbillon. Not only does this certification assure the Swiss industry’s highest standard of precision and performance, but it also serves as a testament to Omega’s watchmaking boffins, who have crafted a tourbillon cage that is able to keep rotating even under a magnetic field of 15,000 gauss – which, apparently, is a lot.
In addition, Omega’s skilled watchmakers have set the new Tourbillon’s speed to one revolution per minute allowing the display of seconds, which is essential for achieving this coveted certification.
You’ll spy the Omega Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 2640 movement of the new timepiece through the watch’s sapphire crystal caseback, where you’ll also note its three-day power reserve indicator.
Beyond the superb accuracy is the new design, which incorporates advanced materials, including two precious alloys. Presented on a black leather strap, the 43.00 mm central casebody, buckle logo, and crown logo are made from 18K Canopus gold, a white gold alloy distinctive for its high brilliance, whiteness, and longevity. In addition, the bridges, mainplate, lugs, bezel, and caseback are formed in 18K Sedna gold, Omega’s own fiery rose gold alloy.
At the centre of the sun-brushed dial, which is also in 18K Sedna gold but which has been given a captivating dark shade thanks to a black PVD treatment, is the tourbillon cage with hand-polished bevels in black ceramised titanium.

Each timepiece has been handcrafted by a select group of horologists at OMEGA’s Atelier Tourbillon, taking around a month of dedicated work to complete.
The new De Ville Tourbillon Numbered Edition comes with Omega’s five-year warranty, and is delivered in a special box with a travel pouch and watch crown winder. There is also a certificate that mentions the specific number of each watch.
