If you’re looking to add a new craft beer to your taste buds’ repertoire, why not choose Olive Ridley, makers of a brew that does some good in the process?
There’s little doubt that craft beer is hitting Asia like a water balloon fresh from the freezer, and now Hong Kong’s beer aficionados will have a new drop to order in the fading months of a particularly balmy summer.
Olive Ridley Brewing Company has debuted its three sustainable, small-batch craft beers in the Fragrant Harbour, with each purchase of this health-giving yeast drink helping out the company’s namesake sea turtle species through a donation to the Turtle Foundation.
The Olive Ridley turtle, named for the distinctive shade of its shell, it nearing extinction thanks to habitat destruction, but while you quench your thirst with the brewery’s Pacific Pilsner, a crisp drop inspired by New Zealand hops; Shell Shock IPA, a smooth and perfectly balanced Indian Pale Ale; or Morjim Pale, a luxurious pale ale hopped with Citra and Cascade hops, you’ll also be giving the Olive Ridleys (as well as green sea turtles around HK thanks to a local link up with charity Aquameridian) a fighting chance.
Look out for specially branded glasses at Hong Kong’s top beer haunts and do flex your conscience as well as your palate.
