Hong Kong’s Yardley Brothers Craft Brewery stays classy with its new Burgundy barrel-aged saison.
Perfectly timed for the festive season, when you put your best intentions aside and allow yourself to indulge in the name of the season, of chilly weather and of togetherness, one of Hong Kong’s leading craft brewers, Yardley Brothers, has created a Burgundy barrel-aged saison, the newest addition to its award-winning Stay Classy series.
The brewery’s Stay Classy series started with a special edition of Yardley Brothers’ highly regarded saison, Quit Your Job!. When the Eat Your Boss, higher ABV version was brewed in 2020, the team decided to put about 250 litres of it into a single Burgundy barrel and let it rest. After three years of patience, the barrel has been opened, revealing a beautiful, golden brew.
The innovative brewers hope the new addition reminds sippers of a damp autumn morning (just look outside!), with a bready nose that smells of rain on straw. The new craft beer release is pouring a rich gold with brilliant highlights, like a fine dessert wine while on the palate there’s a gentle tartness with notes of apricot and oak – expect damp straw, rain, bread, leather-bound books, and apartments that smell like rich mahogany.
Limited to 500 bottles, the new Stay Classy Burgundy barrel-aged saison is available on the Yardley Brothers webshop as well as at Yardleys Taproom in Central and The Beer Shack on Lamma Island.
Other new creations by Yardley Brothers include Mango Sticky Mango; its wood-aged Bugs: Gamay Noir a Jus Blanc; and the experimental S. E. A. Sour.
