One San Francisco distillery has captured the elements to create the stunning Hangar One Fog Point, a truly unique Californian vodka.
As early as the 1800s, the people of Patagonia harvested the water from the lingering mists and fogs of the mountains for centuries, using fine-woven vines. Tapping into that unique, sustainable practice, San Francisco’s Hangar One distillery has created Hangar One Fog Point, a unique Californian vodka made from fresh locally-sourced ingredients, including fog.

“San Francisco’s personality is intertwined with fog,” says fog catcher Chris Fogliatti, founder of Fog Quest, a nonprofit that helps bring sustainable water supplies to impoverished communities and which has partnered with Hangar One. “That’s why I looked into seeing if it could be a resource. It’s biomimicry; people are trying to copy what the plants are doing.”
Fog catchers have been placed at strategic spots across San Francisco, including at the top of the city’s iconic Sutro Tower, with all profits from the product going to fund Fog Quest’s efforts.
It may seem like a smart marketing ploy in a country that at one point saw the launch of a luxury vodka every day of the year, but given that California is in the midst of its biggest drought in history, it’s a step in the right direction.

The fog that Fogliatti captures, which makes up 60 percent of the finished product, is blended with vodka distilled using vintage wines sourced from the sustainable vineyards of Randall Grahm on the Central Coast of California.
The resulting blend, created by chief distiller Caley Shoemaker, yields an extraordinarily crisp, pure, and gluten-free sipping vodka with elegant hints of pear, citrus, and honeysuckle.
The vodka is presented in a unique vessel-inspired bottle with a metal mesh cap reminiscent of the fog catching sails.
