It’s true some women are all for the ‘dad bod’, and accept that this may come hand-in-hand with a gorilla-like chest, but finding little dark hairs in the shower, on the toilet seat, and all over the bedsheets is never pleasant. The Oxford Dictionary puts it best: “say what you will about manscaping – the woolly mammoth died out for a reason”. Before you panic and reach for the wax strips, Grace Brewer gives you the dos and don’ts of hair removal.
Don’t go Bare Down There
Besides the extreme effort that maintaining a hair-less body entails, looking like a newborn baby is really not a good look. You’re going for groomed, not bald.
Do Use the Right Tools
If you’re covered like a carpet, a razor just won’t cut it. Use an electric trimmer for your chest, underarms, and pubic hair, and opt for hair removal cream for the trickier areas.
Don’t Forget to Moisturise
If you’ve stripped any area of hair, the skin is now more exposed and therefore more sensitive. Apply a light moisturiser to keep the skin cool and to avoid any redness.
Do Pick the Right Length
If you’re blessed with a full thick beard, don’t remove everything from the chin down. Keep it all in proportion with your head, legs, and arms.
Don’t Forget the Spots You Can’t See
Your back, sack, and crack are hard to reach and may require the help of a friend, or a trip to a salon, but these are the areas to take the wax to.
Do it in the Shower
Whether you’re waxing, shaving, trimming, or using a hair removal cream, the mess is still the same. Minimise the strays by keeping it all in one place, and shower to dispose of your trimmings with ease.
Don’t Leave Obvious Lines
Clear boundaries of where the smooth skin ends and the bush begins scream 90s porn star. Stick to a clipper grade 1-2 and this should be easy to avoid.
Do Go With the Grain
For a more even length when you shave your beard, you follow the direction the hair grows. The same rules apply for the rest of your body. Your hair grows in all different patterns, especially on your chest.
