All hot and sweaty after watching the World Cup? Maybe it’s time you invested in the right football footwear before you take to the field.
Football boots, like so many other aspects of sports equipment, have come a long way since the first soccer ‘cleats’, which were made of extra-thick leather and covered the ankle.

The newest innovation comes from Nike in the form of the new PhantomVSN. Designer Phil Woodman conceived this boot from the inside out, creating a proprietary new construction – an internal Quadfit mesh bootie – that will be adopted in other Nike footwear. The bootie confirms to fit almost any foot and retains its shape without constricting the foot.
While not visible from the outside, the impact is immediate on the inside – there’s no more painful wearing in of new boots, just slip them on and go for gold.
Another unseen item within the PhantomVSN is the appropriately named Ghost Lace system. To improve upon traditional lacing, the Ghost Lace touchpoints were minimized and a one-pull construction implemented for equal tension all the way down the foot. The laces can then be discretely tucked away to provide an even striking surface.

The hidden innovations on the PhantomVSN reside within a highly texturized Nike Flyknit upper designed to provide premium touch on the ball, especially thanks to a dominant visual cue, a medial triangle that roughly covers the surface between three prominent bones in the foot, creating a targeting system through which a kick is performed.
The cleated version of the new boot features an entirely new FEA-informed traction pattern to accommodate quick multi-directional cuts.
