Clean, bold and infinitely stylish, with just enough innovation and pedigree, these minimalist watches make a bold statement on any lucky gent’s wrist.
When it comes to wrist candy, the modern man’s watch can be a pretty personal accessory. While they’re nice to own, showstopper luxury watches aren’t always practical for the every-day use and having a sleek, simple, and understated timepiece might be the best addition to your look.
Mondaine Helvetica No.1
Switzerland has become as well known for its minimalist watch designs as it is for its luxury pieces, and the Mondaine Helvetica No.1 (above) reinforces this reputation. The font Helvetica was designed to be discreet, un-showy, and neutral, and this timepiece embodies the design elements of the typography, within a timeless Swiss setting.
Available in three styles – light, regular, and bold – the watch features subtle quirks inspired by the Helvetica font, including lugs holding the strap in place that are designed to replicate the famously curved crossbar of Helvetica’s number “1”. The references to the collection’s namesake make this watch a must-have for any design-savvy gent.
TWIA x Humanium Metal
In collaboration with the Humanium Metal Initiative, Triwa has created a new line of Swedish-designed watches made from deconstructed illegal firearms. The weapons are retrieved from conflict-torn societies, melted down, and molded into a usable alloy.
Available from September, the collection consists of four models, all featuring a classic three-hand configuration, with punched indexes. A watch that was previously an AK-47 not only serves as a great conversation starter, but a portion of your purchase will also be donated to victims of armed violence.
Uniform Wares + MoMA
Simplicity is at the core of Uniform Wares, who focus purely on design, leaving out any company branding from their minimalist models. With a studio in London and manufacturers in Switzerland, the ‘London-designed, Swiss-made’ watches all feature a stripped-back, modern design for both men and women.
In collaboration with Manhattan’s Museum of Modern Art, the men’s MoMA M40 watch is a two-hand complication, set in the signature lugless M-Line case, with a black Milanese Nappa leather strap. This back-to-basics timepiece is available exclusively through Uniform Wares, and the MoMA shop.
Braun Gents BN0211 Classic Slim Watch
A multi-award winning timepiece, the Braun Classic Slim Watch combines a streamlined profile with Braun’s slimmest case ever. Available in five designs, each piece features a bold yellow seconds hand against a black, silver, or titanium watch face.
With the sole purpose of simply and cleanly telling the time, the watch features a choice of mesh, titanium mesh, or stainless steel bracelets, and precision quartz and scratch-resistant mineral glass. Modern and minimal, this sleek model is sure to make a subtle statement on any man’s wrist.
TID No.1
The Swedish word for ‘time’, and the name of Stockholm-based watch brand, TID offers three watch designs; No.1, No.2, and No.3, what could be simpler than that? Classic and contemporary, TID’s iconic No.1 timepiece strips back watch functions to an easy-to-read dial and comfy adjustable strap.
The watch face and wristband are available in a range of colours and materials, but we love the crisp white-on-black look with the tan leather strap.
