Waldorf Astoria has opened Ithaafushi – The Private Island, your own personal tropical isle in the heart of the Maldives.
We know you’re secretly planning trips already, waiting for that sweet herd immunity to kick in globally so you can work on your tan somewhere suitably serene. Of course, you’ll want your final destination to be as free of your fellow humans as possible – now that isolation has become the new norm. Fortunately, we think we have just the place for ballers looking to let loose in the post-pandemic age.

The Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi, already a byword for luxury in the Indian Ocean’s favourite playground – has unveiled Ithaafushi – The Private Island, a 32,000sqm hideaway you’ll only have to share with a few hand-picked souls.

Just 15-minutes seaplane from the international airport at Malé, every aspect of the new island retreat has been expertly choreographed. Catering to just 24 guests in two elegantly-designed villas and one palatial four-bedroom residence – complete with two king bedrooms, two queen bedrooms, jacuzzies (plural) and direct beach access – the estate epitomises privacy, with a small army of Personal Concierges meeting your every whim.

You can be as active or as somnolent as you like, with a raft of activities on offer including diving, yacht excursions, yoga sessions, in-villa spa treatments organised by a dedicated wellness concierge, making the rounds of the island’s five swimming pools, and sunset cocktail parties on a remote sandbar. There’s also a private gym for when you’re feeling guilty (and you will…eventually).

You’ll also dine well thanks to the private island’s dedicated culinary team, who will take guests on a diverse culinary journey, offering bespoke menus that can be enjoyed in an array of extraordinary settings, from in-villa dining to special celebrations in the estate’s common living room, Haali (translated to mean ‘the nest’ in Dhivehi). The restaurants and bars of the main resort are also a short boat ride away.
Think of it as your own Fantasy Island.
