Hong Kong’s newest coffee concept, Sai Ying Pun’s TIL, plans to perk up your day with coffee from Downunder.
Allow us to set the scene; it’s just after 2pm on a Wednesday, and every time you look at the clock on the office wall, it seems to be slowing. Your eye lids feel like sacks of potatoes, you’re fighting to focus on your screen, and at any moment you’re going to build a fort under your desk, career be damned. These are the moments you need a decent coffee.
Fortunately, Hong Kong has shifted from a thirst for tea for a bona fide coffee addiction, with specialty spots opening up across the city, and teens telling their parents they’d rather barista than do a masters. The newest home of heart-thumping black gold it TIL (Today is Long), an Australian-styled coffee shop on Queen’s Road West (just opposite the Sai Ying Pun MTR station).
Home to potent coffee shots and warm, welcoming interiors inspired by Uluru at the end of an Outback day so hot the shrimp BBQ themselves, TIL is just the breath of fresh air you need to see you through to clock out time. The new venue only serves coffee from small-batch Australian roasteries (despite the fact coffee isn’t grown there) and punters can make their selection based on if there are having a ‘short day’ or a ‘long day’, and might need a little more in the veins. You can even rationalise the logistics of getting that coffee from producer to roaster to you by having plant-based milk with your brew.
The coffee bar also offers a range of baked goods, seasonal salads, and made-to-order ‘croffles’ (yes, croissant and waffle had a baby). TIL also has a coffee subscription program, allowing you to ensure that every day starts with your single-origin fix. We suggest you hide a bag or two away in that fort, for emergencies.
For the days are long, and in need of coffee.
