Rising basketball star Jayson Tatum teams up with Nike to create his first sneaker, The Tatum 1.
There’s a time in every sporting superstar’s career – when they lend their name to their own sneaker, and now it’s the turn of Boston Celtic Jayson Tatum with the arrival of the Jordan Tatum 1.
Jayson Tatum’s first signature shoe, the Tatum 1 is the lightest performance shoe in Jordan Brand’s performance line this season. Designed for the next generation of players to raise their game, the features a lightweight, reinforced TPU frame that allows excess material to be stripped away. An uncaged Zoom Air unit in the forefoot helps provide energy return without sacrificing court fee, while The Tatum 1 kids’ design features a collapsible heel system for easy on-off entry.
The Tatum 1 was born out of Tatum’s desire to wear a shoe that felt more connected to his foot. Built out of a lightweight, strong TPU frame, the shoe is wrapped by a ground-contact foam that also acts as an integrated traction pattern, with minimal rubber on the toe and ball of the foot for Tatum’s predominantly forefoot game.
This detail allowed designers to cut back on the weight of the shoe while also providing a tight court feel. The mesh knit upper is strong yet lightweight, while the collar is padded for ankle support.
