Sony adds two stunning new devices to its Walkman series of premium music players.
Believe it or not but not everyone listens to their music through their phones. And we’re not talking about home entertainment systems here, we’re talking audio purists and high-end systems dedicated to nothing but perfectly piped tunes. The newest creations by Sony, the WM1ZM2 and NW-WA1AM2 music players continue the brand’s sublime audio street credentials (and its habit of naming devices like they’re biology specimens).

Designed to immerse you in rich, nuanced sound, the NW-WM1ZM2 has been fine-tuned from years of audio mastery and crafted from the very best materials, setting a new benchmark for Sony’s award-winning signature series. Presented with a 99.99% purity gold-plated oxygen-free copper (OFC) chassis, the NW-WM1AM2 allows users to completely lose themselves in high-quality audio with a richer, smoother and more expansive sound field compared to its predecessor. The use of OFC ensures a stronger digital ground and higher rigidity, enabling clear, expansive sound, so you can experience each instrument as if it were performing live.
Contrastingly, the new NW-WM1AM2 uses an aluminium alloy frame which provides a highly rigid case that’s resistive to electrical noise and other interference, creating a stable, high-quality sound.

Both music players let you download and stream from endless catalogues of music with Wi-Fi compatibility, taking your listening enjoyment to the next level. With the use of S-Master HX digital amp technology, independently developed for Walkman, the NW-WM1ZM2 and NW-WM1AM2 deliver rich and full-bodied sound through a Kimber Kable in the case of the former and a low-resistance OFC cable in the case of the latter player.
To realise both music players’ revolutionary sound, a dual clock and fine sound register have been precisely placed within each Walkman. For the first time, Sony has begun using a reflow solder containing gold, which offers significant overall sound localisation improvement and wider sound space. In addition, the NW-WM1ZM2 and NW-WM1AM2 both integrate a DSD Remastering Engine where PCM (Pulse Code Modulation) audio is resampled into an 11.2 MHz DSD (Direct Stream Digital), giving audio junkies even more ways to enjoy their music.

The NW-WM1ZM2 and NW-WM1AM2 are now Wi-Fi compatible and powered by Android 11, giving access to a vast collection of genres and artists, from all around the world. Users can choose to either listen from their favourite music streaming and download services or connect to a PC to download tracks and playlists from their own personal collections, ensuring high-quality sound playback.
