If you’ve ever wanted to combine your next vacation with a hefty dose of adrenaline, you can now go skydiving over…Antarctica.
So, you’ve decided it’s time to do something a little different, a little daring if you will; something that will shock your system into overdrive without (hopefully) giving you a heart attack in the process. While there are many experiences that might have your heart thumping out of your chest, most don’t come with the views we had in mind.

Finally, you can cross skydiving over Antarctica off your bucket list. The activity is now on offer from polar junkies Swoop Antarctica, which will whisk would-be daredevils off to the White Continent on a seven-day summer-time adventure that includes exiting a perfectly good plane at 13,000ft above the spectacular Ellsworth Mountain range.
The adventure begins in Punta Arenas, Chile, from which you’ll depart on a four and a half-hour turboprop flight to Antarctica’s Union Glacier, landing on a natural blue ice runway. You’ll check-in at the Union Glacier Camp, a clutch of double-walled tents designed to withstand the region’s punishing climate, and consult with a resident team of skydive masters, guides, and meteorologists as to the best days to jump.
When that time comes (and provided you didn’t leave your FAI license in your other snow pants), you’ll have the chance to breathe in sweet, clean Antarctic air as you plummet towards the earth, enjoying the mesmerizing, ice-encrusted landscape as it sprints towards you.

Once you pull your chute, you’ll be able to drink in the grandeur of Antarctica, its majestic glaciers and snowy wonder, as you float back to earth. Back at base camp, when you’re not throwing gravity the bird, you can ice climb, cross-country ski, snowboard, and even try your hand at fat tire biking.
The tariff of US$28,775 per person includes flights to Antarctica, two jumps, meals and tented accommodation, but that’s a small price to pay for memories that will last a lifetime.
