Attend a live rocket launch while getting a little culture with this unique escape to Japan.
Ever dreamed about watching a rocket launch? In Asia, that’s easier said than done but USP Japan has commenced sales of a unique package that will combine hands-on rocket assembly and a few insightful cultural activities on the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route with the chance to watch a Kairos rocket launch from Spaceport Kii, Japan’s first private rocket launch site.

The three-day journey kicks off with a prayer ceremony for the rocket launch’s success at Fudarakusan-ji Temple, a World Heritage site, where you’ll glimpse the temple’s hidden statue of the Eleven-Faced Kannon and take in the positive energy of a Goma fire ceremony. The next day you’ll head to remote Kushimoto, home of Spaceport Kii, which provides commercial space services for satellites, sending around 20 satellites into space each year.
You’ll view the launch site up close and launch your own model rocket using the exact mechanisms of the commercial versions. Unlike other launch sites, this unique setting also allows visitors to experience a world heritage site, national park and protected Ramsar wetland.

When the time comes, you’ll watch the rocket’s launch (the big boy, not your model) from one of three viewpoints – from the Shimizu Pass on the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route, from a private chartered cruise, or from your own private hot spring bath at Koubouyu Onsen.
Afterwards, there’s an exclusive BBQ and launch replay viewing party at the famous Ichimaiiwa rock formation, with videos projected onto the ancient cliff face.
The tour departs December 13 so light a fire and get cracking.
