Gaming lifestyle brand Razer has turned its tech know-how to our new stark reality with the ground-breaking Project Hazel smart mask.
When Covid-19 started reaching across the globe, we in Asia had a bit of an advantage. Since SARS, facemasks have been fairly commonplace in the likes of Singapore, Bangkok, Hong Kong, and Tokyo. If you were sick but not at death’s door (which was what was required for a day off from some employers) you wore a mask to protect those around you. If you had allergies, if you were trying to protect yourself from pollution, or if you had a zit so big it was doing stand up in the bathroom mirror, you wore a mask. Today, most of us are wearing a mask every time we leave the house and it hasn’t been a tricky transition.
However, it does look like facemasks might be the new norm, which means you’ll want to invest in some facemask tech.

Introducing Project Hazel, a smart mask by gaming lifestyle brand Razer designed to help improve the convenience of daily mask-wearing while overcoming common social interaction…challenges. Razer actually saw this new norm early on, converting its manufacturing facilities to produce certified medical masks at the start of the pandemic. They even donated one million masks to healthcare frontliners, which is pretty cool.

The company’s new Project Hazel smart mark addresses the increased emphasis on hygiene and the environmental issues of disposable masks, while pimping the features of your most important personal protective covering. The mask builds on the design of the N95 medical-grade respirator using detachable and rechargeable active ventilators and Smart Pods to regulate airflow and optimise breathability. The Smart Pods filter at least 95 percent of airborne particles and have a high fluid resistance, because breathing can be wet work.

Project Hazel also has a social element to it; its transparent design allows those around you to view facial cues, while interior lights activate automatically in the dark to light up your face so you can express yourself better. Sadly, this means no more getting away with ‘mask mumbles’, especially with the mask’s Razer Voiceamp Technology, which uses a built-in microphone and amplifier to enhance the user’s speech for clear communication.
The silicon-lined smart mask delivers comfort with active air cooling, bringing in fresh air and venting out CO2. An air-tight seal is achieved by adjustable ear loops that allows for a custom fit that doesn’t obstruct the mouth.

To reduce the waste created by disposable masks, the Project Hazel smart mask uses replaceable and rechargeable disc-type ventilators that can be conveniently sanitized of bacteria and viruses by being placed inside its dual-purpose wireless fast charging box, which features a disinfecting UV-light interior. Lighting indicators show charge levels, and a long-lasting battery life enables all-day mask use. The waterproof, scratch-resistant mask is as tough as it is sustainable—made of recyclable plastic to greatly minimize the waste created by disposable masks.

You can even match your mask with your personal style thanks to two customizable Razer Chroma RGB lighting zones that offer 16.8 million colors and a suite of dynamic lighting effects.
