Omega has created a new take on its Seamaster Diver 300M chronograph, using a striking blend of gold, titanium, and tantalum, a metal it first debuted in 1993.
When we look for a timepiece, design, heritage, and even cost often play second fiddle to durability. After all, who wants to buy an expensive watch that can’t take a little wear and tear? This is why so many watch manufacturers turn to metals like gold, titanium, or tantalum, or even create their own alloys of these, like Sedna gold, a rose/red gold alloy introduced by the watch brand in 2013.

Featuring a blend of all of these, Omega reintroduces tantalum, a metal known for its lustrous blue-grey tones, in its latest Seamaster dive watch. The Omega 44mm Master Chronometer is a Numbered Edition, made from grade 2 titanium, 18K Sedna gold, and tantalum.

Found on the base of the bezel and the middle links of the bracelet, tantalum is rarer than gold, harder than steel, and highly corrosion-resistant, making it a valuable alternative to platinum. Dark, dense, pliable, and highly conductive of heat and electricity, it is particularly difficult to work with, yet remains acclaimed for its robustness.

The timepiece’s 18K Sedna gold bezel ring features a laser-ablated diving scale, while the polished blue ceramic dial sports laser-engraved waves and date window at 6 o’clock. Sedna gold can also be found on the subdial rings and on the side of the case, where a gold panel is engraved with the watch’s unique number.
Turning the watch over reveals an OMEGA Seahorse, which has been laser-engraved and white lacquered on the sapphire crystal. Through the glass, there is a clear view of the Omega Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 9900, certified by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS).

For ocean adventurers, each bracelet includes Omega’s patented extendable foldover rack-and-pusher with extra diver extension. The timepiece is water-resistant up to 30 bar (300 m / 1000 ft.) and offered inside a special presentation box in the style of a water-resistant chamber.
Just don’t try wearing it through airport security.
