For all those spy-inspired watch gurus out there, Omega has created the limited-edition Seamaster Diver 300M “Commander’s Watch”, a new timepiece that celebrates the rank and regalia of the world’s most famous secret agent.
Since James Bond was first introduced by Ian Fleming in his Casino Royale in 1953, the spy has become a cultural – not to mention style – icon that men want to be and women want to be with. He also has rather nice taste in watches, an element that was quickly adopted in the film versions of his books.
Taking its cues from Bond’s role in the Royal Navy, and his rank as Commander, the release of the new timepiece coincides with three noteworthy anniversaries for Bond film producer Albert R. Broccoli’s EON Productions and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios’ (MGM) Bond franchise, including the 50th anniversary of You Only Live Twice; the 40th anniversary of The Spy Who Loved Me; and the 20th anniversary of Tomorrow Never Dies. In each of these films, James Bond can be seen wearing his official military uniform.
The piece’s unique design is inspired by the red, white, and blue colours of the Royal Navy as well as the Commander’s insignia itself. Cased in stainless steel, the Commander’s Watch features a polished white ceramic dial, faceted blue skeleton hour-minute hands, and a varnished red seconds hand with a “007” gun logo counterweight. The see-through case back also reveals a rotor with the Royal Navy’s Commander rank insignia.
Presented on a five-stripe blue, red and grey polyamide NATO Strap, with an additional metal bracelet, the new watch is powered by the exclusive OMEGA Calibre 2507. The stainless-steel version is limited to 7,007 pieces, while a more lavish version in 18-karat yellow gold is limited to just seven pieces.
