Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Bond flick Octopussy, Globe-Trotter releases a range inspired by the iconic Octopus design of villain Octopussy’s silk robe.
We’re sure that while it might not be your favourite 007 chapter, Octopussy had a certain lavish appeal. In the 1983 film, which was Roger Moore’s sixth outing as James Bond, the robe is worn by cult-leading, jewel smuggling Octopussy (played by Maud Adams) in the Octopalace, her exotic Indian island residence and home to her women-only sisterhood.
Bond arrives on the floating island disguised as a crocodile in one of Q’s aquatic devices, unaware that Octopussy is watching his every move on her surveillance cameras. When they do meet for the first time she says: “And you are James Bond. 007, licensed to kill. Am I to be your target for tonight?” Ah, the playful, innuendo-soaked repartee!
Her robe has now inspired the newest limited-edition additions to British luggage brand Globe-Trotter’s James Bond Collection, with the range including both a four-wheel check-in and four-wheel carry on case, as well as a rather smart attache case and a luggage tag.
Each of the cases is constructed in Globe-Trotter’s signature vulcanised fibreboard, which is made from 14 layers of recycled paper bonded with zinc and which boasts a striking octopus design inspired by the art of Maciek Piotrowski. In addition, the cases boast leather corners (each of which takes five days to craft), durable retractable handles, water resistant lining in the octopi motif, carbon steel locks, and a serial plaque with a unique serial number.
A more compact version of the brand’s popular Attaché, the collection’s streamlined briefcase is equally nostalgic and features a similar coloured sea creature, while the terracotta-hued leather luggage tag also makes for a great gift for the Bondophile in your life.
