If you fancy hanging ten in paradise, Niyama Private Islands has the inside scoop on the best breaks across the Maldives.
The Indian Ocean archipelago of the Maldives is well known as an idyllic locale for lovers of sun, sand, and sea. So, you could be forgiven for not recognizing it as one of the region’s most sought-after alternative surfing destinations.

Niyama Private Islands is working to change that. Home to uncrowded waves and high-quality breaks that are challenging at times and suitable for intermediate to advanced surfers, with some spots perfect for beginner coaching, Niyama’s twin islands – Chill and Play – have a little something for every rider.
Vodi surf point is a classic, powerful left-hand ride that breaks onto the shore, while Kasabu surf point at Kudahuvadhoo Corner, off to the west and just five minutes away by speedboat, is a superb right-hander with barrelling sections. Head east for ten minutes to Hocus Pocus at Maeenboodhoo Corner for another barrelling right-hander.
If you’re new to surfing, try one of the tailormade surf programs at Float, the resort’s water sports operator, developed in association with LUEX, one of the world’s leading luxury surf tour operators, or for the ultimate adventure, take Niyama’s private seaplane out to the best, most remote breaks.

To ensure the surfing vibe never dies, the resort even boasts accommodations dedicated to riders. Surf Beach Studios, with or without a pool, and a spacious Surf Family Beach Suite, range from 135 to 255sqm.
Located at Surf Corner, each guest room is fitted with a surfboard rack and stocked with surf amenities and necessities, including bicycles with a surfboard rack, and dedicated television channels displaying up-to-the-minute surf reports and a live feed of the nearby Vodi surf point. Each room also features a king bed, butler service, and a full-size refrigerator overflowing with gourmet treats.
As the sun sets over the ocean swells, guests can head to the Surf Shack at Vodi surf point, where surfers can drink classic rum cocktails, dine on Jamaican comfort food, and describe their ultimate ride to the rhythms of reggae.
