If you’re looking for a life-affirming experience, Niyama Private Islands in the Maldives has created a unique skydiving adventure.
When travel starts again – and it will, eventually – we’re confident that you’ll want to enter this brave new era with something of a bang. Sure, you might not want to delve too far from home until the metaphorical dust has settled from the global pandemic, but even destinations that are familiar can serve up truly unique experiences from time to time, encounters that will make you feel like you’ve really emerged from hibernation.

If screaming your lungs out as you plummet towards the azure seas of the Maldives is your idea of a bang, then you’re in luck. Niyama Private Islands, a sublime locale at the heart of the Indian Ocean’s favourite playground, has launched a new tandem skydiving experience that will not only wake all the senses but also offer you a unique vista on the archipelago.
You’ll take off on your vertiginous adventure from nearby Dhaalu Airport, a short speedboat ride from the resort, and, when the time is right, leap from a perfectly good aircraft with an experienced instructor, enjoying your own Point Break moment from 12,000ft.
The jump involves a one-minute freefall at the extreme speed of 200km/hour before the parachute opens for a five-minute ‘flight’ down to the resort’s white-sand beaches. We imagine they will have some celebratory libations on hand with which you can settle your post-jump nerves.
