Nike has created its most sustainably-minded training sneaker to date with the introduction of the Nike Air Zoom Alphafly Next Nature.
So when we look at the items that will make up our wardrobe, we’ve traditionally gone for either quality, in the case of a pair of work shoes or a good suit, durability in the case of outdoors kit, or affordability when it comes to life’s little basics. However, a growing number of consumers are now adding sustainability as a deciding factor, with gents increasingly leaning towards items that are sustainable or which make an active contribution to the environment or participating communities.

Nike‘s been no stranger to this movement – it’s currently aiming to reduce its carbon footprint by 70% and aims to divert 100% waste from landfills back into the production process – and its newest release, the Nick Air Zoom Alphafly Next Nature, has already been dubbed the brand’s most sustainability-minded running shoe to date.
Following from Nike Basketball’s Cosmic Unity, Nike Running designers were driven by a core belief within the Move to Zero initiative—Nike’s journey toward zero carbon and zero waste—that a product that makes the world better can also make an athlete better. While the Cosmic Unity set the bar with 25 percent total recycled content by weight, the new Alphafly Next Nature takes things a step further, with at least 50 percent total recycled content by weight, making it Nike’s boldest move yet in merging sustainability and performance.

To achieve this, the new sneaker features a ZoomX midsole made with ZoomX foam, with leftover recycled foam inserted back into the PEBA ZoomX liner, while material recycled from the production of Zoom Air pods has been incorporated into the 3D printing process of the Alphafly’s grey hybrid Flyprint – a textile made from at least 20% TPU – and 45% recycled Flyknit upper. Even the laces are made from 100% recycled polyester. A matching outsole has been moulded together with higher abrasion compounds and Nike Grind Rubber for durability and grip.
