Montblanc channels author Jules Verne with a new Meisterstück collection of writing instruments inspired by his book Around the World in 80 Days.
Back in 1872, when French author Jules Verne first released his now-iconic tome Around the World in Eighty Days, it was an opportunity for readers to travel the furthest corners of the globe without having to leave home, something many of us can appreciate after a year grounded by Covid.
In the novel, prim-and-proper British gentleman Phileas Fogg points out the rapid expansion of the global rail network and agrees on a wager that he could circumnavigate the globe within 80 days, by whatever means necessary. The bet is for GBP20,000 and to put that into context, that’s about GBP2.3 million today, so he had the appropriate motivation and soon embarked on what was, for the day, a truly magnificent adventure.

Inspired by Verne’s travel tale, Montblanc has created the Montblanc Meisterstück Around The World in 80 Days, a collection of writing instruments that bring to life this fantastical story and which capture the many design elements of adventure, including the indigo blue of the Indian Ocean, steamboats, waves, hot air balloons, and games of chance.
The new collection includes the Meisterstück Around The World in 80 Days Resin Le Grand & Classique, a stunning fountain pen with a cap and barrel made of blue precious resin enhanced with platinum-coated fittings and with an embossed pattern of key elements of Phileas Fogg’s journey – ocean waves and playing card suits.

The Meisterstück Around The World in 80 Days Resin Doué Edition, another fountain pen, features engravings of the wave pattern and steamship on the platinum-coated cap, while the barrel is made of a blue translucent lacquer with a subtle gradient effect. The cap is adorned with a metal cartouche engraved with the steamboat on which Fogg and his manservant Passepartout travel.
The Meisterstück Around The World in 80 Days Solitaire Edition displays a cap and barrel made of blue translucent lacquer with a milled pattern representing the key elements of the first 18 days of the journey: ocean waves and a steamboat representing the journey across the Mediterranean aboard The Mongolian. It also features the steamboat cartouche. The 18K handcrafted bi-colour rhodium and champagne tone gold-coated nib is decorated with the hot air balloon associated with Jules Verne’s adventure
stories.

If you’re a traveller at heart but not so much a pen enthusiast, the new collection also includes a series of matching accessories and wearables, including a stationery set complete with calfskin notebooks and a blue leather pen pouch; steel round cufflinks with the card suit design; leather and steel bracelets in red and blue; and a limited-edition of the Montblanc Summit Lite smartwatch with an “80 Days” watch face and a blue calfskin strap.
