From light and fresh to earthy and woody, ensure you’re in tune with the season with our picks for the top men’s fragrances for summer.
A good summer scent is like the perfect beach day. Fun, heady and long-lasting. To get through the months of sun and humidity, you’ll want a scent that wears from day to night, and uses lots of recognisable summer ingredients – think citrus, fruits, and even water – and blends them with more manly notes like must, wood and leather. Luckily, we’ve done the hard work and rounded up the best men’s fragrances for summer 2019.
Now all you have to do is pick one.
Bleu de Chanel
Chanel
Chanel is no newcomer to the perfume market, and it delivers again with its latest scent. This new release by one of France’s most legendary fashion house is a bottled version of the brand’s clothes – crisp and refined without being stuffy. It’s a lighter, fresher gentlemen’s cologne, with top notes of citrus and mint layered over woody green scents. Think of this as your summer-in-the-country essential.
Pacific Lime
Atelier Cologne
The Atelier Cologne brand was the product of a New York City love story between founders Christophe Cervasel and Sylvie Ganter, and so each scent carries a story of emotion and memories. Moments in a bottle, if you will. The brand’s newest scent, Pacific Lime, captures the excitement of travel and surprise. A lighter perfume perfect for sultry summer nights, the cologne uses Mexican lime as its star. Citrus notes are brought forth by orange, spearmint and eucalyptus, while the addition of coconut adds a tropical touch.
The Tragedy of Lord George
Penhaligon’s
This Victorian-era British perfumer is so good at scents that it holds a Royal Warrant from The Duke of Edinburgh. Penhaligon’s Portraits collection bottles the essence of the British aristocracy, with a scent and tongue-in-cheek backstory for each notable character. The Tragedy of Lord George is a tribute to the upper crust landowners that were once the backbone of English society. With notes of brandy, shaving soap and tonka beans, it’s a rich, masculine eau de parfum that reeks of sophistication. The bottle’s pretty nifty, too.
Sydney Rock Pool
Arquiste
Inspired by the golden hour of Australia’s beaches and the natural rock pools around Sydney’s strips of sand, this perfume is a beach day in a bottle. Developed with perfumer Rodrigo Flores-Roux, this evocative scent has top notes of mineral accord, coconut, and Australia sandalwood, with the addition of driftwood, frangipani, jasmine and narcissus at the heart – you’ll get that fresh-from-the-water feeling even if you’re spending the summer at your desk. Fun fact: the original version of the scent was created for Conde Nast Traveller magazine to celebrate its Destination of the Year 2016: Australia – it was so popular Arquiste decided to create a mass-market scent.
Sundazed
Byredo
Byredo’s known for its unique scents, and the brand’s latest offering is no different. Very appropriate for summer, Sundazed is inspired by those lazy, hazy carefree beach days. It starts off refreshing with mandarin and lemon top notes and a neroli and jasmin heart; but it’s that slightly sweet and musky base that transports you to beach holidays filled with sunscreen, ice cream, hot sun and salty sea.
