Inspired by one of Los Angeles’ coolest enclaves, Melrose Coffee opens in Hong Kong’s hip Soho district.
It was the 1980s, (well before the television show of the same name – the one whose theme song you’re probably whistling right now) when Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles really made a name for itself. Back then the street was known for its edgy boutiques, vinyl shops and independent brands. Now, one of the coolest corners of La La Land plays muse to Hong Kong’s newest shrine to java.

Inspired by the vibrant Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles, this new dusty rose-walled coffee shop embodies the effortlessly cool care-free Californian spirit, making for the perfect antidote to Hong Kong living.
Melrose Coffee’s sleek exterior is splashed with different hues of pastel pink, ranging from the marble-like coral arch and blush-rose tiled walls to striped seat pads reminiscent of the poolside and beaches people flock to under the California heat.

So what will you go to Melrose for? The menu is laced with California breakfast dishes ranging from Royal Potato Rostis with smoked salmon and salmon roe; and Spinach Bacon Frittatas with capsicum, zucchini and mushroom; to Popover Pancakes; and Ricotta and Prosciutto Toast, the perfect balance of salty and sweet.
Also look out for the “Croffle” Churros, the union of a flaky croissant and a waffle iron, or vegan pastries from Ovule Bakery by Sow Vegan, which you can pair with single origin coffee beans from Honduras with peachy and oolong tea-like tasting notes – the ESP Cinnamon is made with blended chai tea and an energizing shot of espresso, making for a complex, fragrant, and refreshing morning fix.
