The latest craft spirit sensation, Kuro is a charcoal and silver birched-laced gin, that takes its inspiration from a skiing vacation in the Japanese Alps.
Travel can be liberating, not just for the body and the senses but also for the mind. Exposure to new experiences, people, and places, and some much-needed time away from routine can bring previously somnolent imaginations to life. In fact, some of the world’s best (or at least most creative) ideas have their origins in a post-piste hot tub.

So it was with Kuro, a new London Dry-style gin inspired by the slopes of Hakuba Valley.
Kuro, which takes its name for the Japanese for ‘black’, has been created by Britons Craig Fell and John Thomson, who decided to take the timeless dry gin recipe and pack it with the flavours of the mountains, including bamboo-activated charcoal, spruce needles, and silver bitch. These rather unorthodox ingredients meet more traditional botanicals like coriander, cinnamon, liquorice and nutmeg to create a craft spirit that’s earthy and aromatic.
Produced in the 300-litre copper stills of Langley Distillery by master distiller Rob Dorsett, the 43% ABV spirit is complex yet smooth, with a creamy mouthfeel, and is presented in a misted rectangular bottle with a Japanese-inspired monogram on the back.

In addition, the company has expanded its portfolio to include two other Japanese-inspired gins, Cherry Blossom, an elegant and light pink gin, and Soft Peach, both of which lend themselves to both winter and summer activities.
